In response to the 100 year anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal, I, Most Reverend Robert E. Guglielmone, 13th Bishop of Charleston, declare all churches within the diocese that bear a title of the Blessed Mother to be a pilgrim site from May 13 until December 12. In honor of this special 100th anniversary, Pope Francis has granted a plenary indulgence opportunity to those who pray before any statue of Our Lady of Fatima “solemnly exposed for public veneration in any church, oratory or proper place during the days of the anniversary of the apparitions” on the 13th of each month from May to October 2017, participating in special prayer services to honor Our Blessed Mother.
Those seeking an indulgence must also pray an Our Father, recite the Creed and invoke Our Lady of Fatima.
“May the maiden of Nazareth, who in the whole world has assumed a thousand names and faces in order to be close to her children, intercede for all of us and help us to sing of the great works that the Lord is accomplishing in us and through us.” (Pope Francis’ Message for the 32nd World Youth Day on April 9, 2017)
In the Lord’s Peace,
Most Reverend Robert E. Guglielmone
Bishop of Charleston
